I started my entrepreneurial journey years ago. I was working as a freelancer. Although I did my job well and earned a good amount of money to live off of, somehow, I was not happy. I could not tell why. I kept looking for new opportunities and I started to build a new business as a side project.
I truly believed I could help a lot of people if my new business would be successful. I had a mission. I joined a start-up incubator program. I wanted to learn how to create a better business. I started to implement what I learned. At least, that is what I thought I was doing…
A dream about freedom
Focus energy on building a good foundation
Often, we have limited time. Money is important, but so is having enough energy to make your ideas happen. To create a scalable business, you need to have a good foundation; a predictable system that aligns with you and your audience. To get freedom, you need to learn what works and what does not. For your business and for yourself. Before you run out of energy and resources.
I learned this the hard way. I remember the turning point, where I sat in my bed, sick. My energy resource was gone. I needed to do things differently. I was not connected to myself.
When you don’t know or listen to what aligns with yourself, then it’s hard to keep going. You’ll end up running out of fuel. A sustainable business is also connected to your personal life and energy.
That’s why you need to create a good foundation. When your foundation gives energy, then more likely, you will be able to persist and grow your business, by doing actions that generate a predictable result.
It was after I got help from a coach that I had insight. Suddenly I understood why my work as a freelancer was costing me energy. My professional life had drained me. It could have been different. If I had known what to focus on, sooner.
Clarity and flow as golden thread
Clarity is like a golden thread that gives you the direction of what to focus on. It helps you to define goals and a path to achieve them. Flow is what gives you the energy to act on this plan. With flow, actions you do are effortless and give you energy. Everything around you seems to fade. Including time.
You find flow when you develop the right behaviour, in an environment where you can use your born talents. Talents are often associated with knowledge, music, art or other things that are “special”. But in fact, it’s simpler: having talent means that it does not require a lot of effort. Patterns in what you do or how you think.
Having talent does not necessarily mean that you are good at it from the start. It could be that you are not in the right environment to let your talent flourish. Talents are like muscles; they need to develop in the right circumstances.
Develop your born talents and use them in the right environment
It is likely that you are not aware of what your talents are. At least not consciously. Some actions and their results may seem small. But when you use your talents by doing something with other people or doing something to them, they create a great impact.
What gives you flow and passion when you do it? That can reveal the areas in which you excel. Those are your natural-born talents.
Your life journey can be a good start to finding what gives flow. Your past and present achievements, activities, or projects can reveal a path to this golden thread. Additionally, other people can help you get more clarity about where you stand out.
Talents are your most valuable player
In my business program, I help my clients to connect to their talents. I help them create a business that aligns with themselves and to their ideal customers. From personality, talents and experience you can create a unique concept that makes you shine like the north star.
That insight about talents changed my life. I restarted my business. I chose for my talents. I still do.
If you are not living by your talents, I invite you to start doing it. You will realise that you will get more energy. Flow will help you to be persistent in actions that work.
Doing the right actions with your talent will give you an unfair advantage to your competition. Talents can help you to be the most valuable player in the market.
More important: it will help you create a good foundation for your business. One that will last for a long time.
