My girlfriend Michelle was telling me about the 22-second hug this morning. Apparently when you hug someone for at least 22 seconds everyday, you become happier.
That got me to thinking about hugs. I’ve always been a hugger!
I’ve got to the place of long hugs with my girlfriends – not all the time but often enough. My husband and I share deep, strong hugs that hold silent, weighty meaning and let me know that it’s all going to be OK but these are only needed on special days. My most frequent hugging buddy is my daughter. She’s 10 now and is the world’s greatest hugger!
Our hugs are those long ones, where we are both fully present. She soaks in Mommy Love and gives the same dose of love back to me. At the same time I’m giving and receiving just as much love too.
These are state-changing, oxytocin-inducing hugs and I get them at least twice a day (before school and before bed). We fall into each other and in that moment feel complete, connected, oneness.
I feel so blessed!
Hugs not only make me happier they make me a better person because they help me remember the truth of who I really am – complete, connected, oneness.
Loop of Love
A long fully present hug is a brilliant example of a perfect loop of giving and receiving simultaneously. For the moment of that hug we experience our true self – a complete, connected, loving being.
