Yes, it’s another cautionary tale. Whilst I may be making progress getting my personal goals back into a routine, I’ve realized now is also a good time to be looking at my brand and a web presence within my business goals. Sigh. Another house reno of sorts.
Last century (yes I AM that old) I remember how excited/traumatized I felt when it was time to design my own business card. Even then, I was made to feel it wasn’t enough. Did I have pamphlets, postcards, or fridge magnets to go with it? A t-shirt with an embroidered logo, a mug, pens, a banner, magnets for my car, stationary?
Get a website too, they said. It’s free for the first 12 months. Indeed! You know I’m being overly dramatic when I say “they”. I mean “absolutely everybody I talk to about websites”. Blessed be the truth-tellers amongst them – my saviors and heroes. They are far more honest about how much is involved in creating a web presence – a digital house of business if you will. If I had some cool products to sell then, sure, I’d definitely have a website and happily cross-reference on social media sites.
Selling A Service
BUT I don’t have a product to sell. I provide a service. It’s the one service, delivered via a number of different methods under the one banner, a very broad banner, of kinesiology. Or as a friend of mine’s aunt would call it “kiniki woo woo”.
Nothing portrays “crackpot” quite like including the word “woo woo” in a bio. Challenge accepted. A shout out to the free thinkers amongst us. And because it is energy work, there are no guarantees or promises beyond the fact that it may or may not help you.
Stress does that to you. Welcome to that can of worms. The only universal truth here is that despite all your efforts you will die. Ah, but until that time it is up to you to decide how you will live. Brand that!
Even the registered association that I belong to invites me to include a web presence within theirs. It would seem I have to showcase my abilities, prove the point or more accurately, my worth, over and over again on various digital platforms. No wonder the younger generations are anxious and stressed. Get a grip, kids.
Reality Check
Think of it this way, when you switch on a light in your house you are not required to be a master builder. You flick a switch and the job is done. That is the point of your web presence – shining a light on your business. Sure, you need several skilled people to be involved in the process before you can flick that switch. The trick is to find good people and value for money.
Enjoy the process… said no one ever who has built or renovated their own home. Therein lies the warning. When you’re starting out, unless you are financial wizard, you won’t be building the mansion version of a web presence. You’ll be on a first home buyers package. Some of you will realize that you can’t afford to buy at all. Some of you will have to get really creative when taking your business out into the ethers. Kinda like where energy work is.
Delicious thought, isn’t it?
